We are extremely happy to announce that the New Jersey Chief State medical examiner has saw fit to overrule the original cause of death for Muriyd Two Clouds William which was documented as drowning.
Although the Bergen County medical examiner concluded that Two Clouds had died from a drowning even though the autopsy assessment found no fluid in or around the lungs or in the abdominal cavity, no increase in lung weight, no froth in the trachea, nose, or mouth, and a clear airway free of debris, the Chief State examiner found no cause to stand by that statement. He also found no evidence that Two Clouds had a prior history of heart attack, since the autopsy assessment found no scar tissue or factors that would have indicated such. Furthermore, he found that the amount of ethanol that was found in Two Cloud's body was strictly due to decomposing over multiple days- not intoxication.
Due to our steadfastness in collecting data ourselves for more than two years, we were able to do what the Mahwah police and Bergen County officials have been unwilling to do: an investigation. There was no reason for a healthy 30-year old man to be found dead in a calf-high body of water next to a white-water canoe that is designed to not flip from someone falling from it, with no shoes and none of his jewelry and hunting knife that he always carried with him. There was also no reason for law enforcement to assume there was no foul play because they did not find culprits days later hiding behind the trees or in the grass awaiting arrest days after the death had obviously taken place.
In fact, according to the 9-1-1 transcripts, there was no reason for law enforcement to be there for a dead body at all because contrary to the police report which documents the incident and states dispatch received a call from passersby, there was no such call. The first call to dispatch was from law enforcement, and quite awhile after the report states they were already there.
So what really happened to Two Clouds, and why are there so many inconsistencies from law enforcement and officials? Why did the county medical examiner document information that was unsupported by scientific findings? Why is everyone so disinterested in learning why an Indigenous man known to be a target due to his work and success as an Indigenous rights activist and Land Back advocate turned up dead in the center of a wealthy Polo Club community surrounded by multi-million-dollar mansions?
We will find out.
